Welcome to Centro Médico Dominicano

United for your health!

Founded in 1981 and later expanded in 2004, Centro Médico Dominicano has proudly served the Washington Heights community with compassionate, high-quality healthcare. Our center was founded to meet the needs of the local Hispanic community as well as other cultures — providing a place where every patient feels understood, respected, and cared for in their own language. From the start, our mission has been to deliver accessible and comprehensive medical care while embracing the values of cultural diversity and bilingual service. Occupying the space once home to Wadsworth Hospital. Centro Médico Dominicano took on the important role of supporting the community’s health and wellness with professionalism, dedication, and heart. At Centro Médico Dominicano, we remain committed to improving the well-being of every individual and family we serve — because your health is our purpose.

The History of the Organization

In 1986, The Dominican Medical Center was designated as the civil surgeon of the United States in the Service of Immigration and Naturalization. Because of this, a great number of patients came from as far as Massachusetts and Virginia. They were attracted by the reputation of The Dominican Medical Center and the excellent care and courtesy we provide to the Hispanic community.

We employ a group of doctors and team members that are specifically Hispanic and bilingual. Because of this, THE DOMINICAN MEDICAL CENTER immediately became known for the acceptance by the community of Washington Heights and of the medical insurances where English speaking doctors tried to communicate with their Spanish speaking patients through translators.

CMD crossed the barrier not only to bring their patients a more direct form of communication but also with an entire team of health care workers that completely understand your culture. Many patients have said that this is the first time they feel absolutely comfortable in a health care facility.

In 2004, under the leadership of Dr. Eliécer Guzmán and Dr. Fernando Taveras, The Dominican Medical Center became an integral part of the Hispanic Community in Washington Heights. We offer complete service in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine with specialties in the following areas:
